a decade together

Wow. It’s been a while since I’ve composed a blog entry but I felt like the 10th year of celebrating parenthood would be a pretty good time to type some.

Those of you that followed us up until 5 years ago when Facebook and Instagram took over completely, might appreciate this post. You guys always had such kind words to say about my posts and getting the opportunity to watch our family grow.

It seems unreal that we have been a family for a decade. A decade. But at the same time, shouldn’t it be 15 or 20 by now??? 😂

I would be lost without these children. They are our world  and the reason for our existence. And y’all, they are beautiful.

I’ve been reminded more this summer than ever of the fact that these kids aren’t mine.
They belong to God. I mess up daily in my walk as a parent and I’m so thankful that He allows me to try again.

Those of us that advocate so much for foster care and adoption wish that everyone could take in at least one child. But I understand that isn’t the reality of this world and that’s ok. We all have the power to do something. Pray for these children, their biological families, their foster and adoptive families, the judges-attorneys-CASA volunteers- therapists-teachers that make decisions for their future. Donate your time or money. The children of this world are HIS! And that means that we have an obligation to help them.
There’s a wonderful short book about Mary and Joseph and his role as an adoptive father. It’s such a great read. There’s a passage that addresses this responsibility that we all have:
The protection of children isn’t charity.
It isn’t part of a political program fitting somewhere between tax cuts and gun rights or between carbon emission caps and a national service corps. It’s spiritual warfare.

I don’t know what life would look like had Alex and I not taken the path laid before us on our journey through life. And I wouldn’t want it any other way

Here’s to at least a few more decades together.
🤟 to you Abigail, Makayla, and Olivia
